Hello
blog viewers,
My name is Saif Pasha and I am currently
a senior at BASIS Scottsdale. I got the opportunity to pursue my
interests in a Senior Research Project (SRP) during the third trimester of my
senior year in high school. In this blog, I will be walking you through the progress
of my SRP. I will be working with my father and his software company,
IntegrateWARE, along with my faculty advisor, Mr. Peacher, to make a mobile
application (on iOS) to help identify stress patterns in adolescents.
How many of us can say we have not experienced
stress before an important assignment, test, or presentation at school? I first
realized stress was a global issue when reading a news report about high suicide
rates in some of the top performing schools. I came up with the idea to use a
mobile app to pinpoint stress patterns in adolescents. I thought this would be
a great tool since teenagers are constantly using their phones throughout the
day. Furthermore, health care programs have encouraged the use of applications in
healthcare delivery for this age group. An application also serves better than
a stress survey (that you may find in a hospital) since surveys are limited to capturing
data at only one point in time, and are not able to provide real time data when
individuals are experiencing stress or stress related symptoms.
I will be coding on Xcode using the
programming language, Swift. Since I started learning Swift a couple of months
ago, I expect to run into many coding issues while developing the app, and while
it will be challenging and frustrating at first, it will ultimately be a great
learning experience. I expect the majority of my time will be spent coding,
since creating an app from scratch takes a few months (and the SRP deadline is in
early May). Other than creating the app, I will have to make it user-friendly,
making an interface that will not be overly complicated and easy to use,
inviting app-users to utilize it on a day-to-day basis.
I will begin my SRP as soon as my third
trimester starts (on February 8th). Until then, you will be able to read
more about my SRP (through my SRP proposal) in the link on the right.
I
hope you enjoy reading about my SRP progress during the next few months!
